Increasing Affordable Housing
The Partnership was created in 1997 with the goals of preserving, improving and increasing affordable housing in the Sioux Empire. Since its inception, we have revitalized 30 homes, built more than 60 new homes for modest-income families and assisted thousands of individuals and families with pre-purchase homebuyer education.
In 2010 the Sioux Empire Housing Partnership's Board of Directors appointed a committee to obtain information on forming a CHDO, a private, nonprofit community based service organization that develops affordable housing within its service area. As a result, the Sioux Empire Affordable Housing CHDO, Inc. was formed as a non-profit organization in the state of South Dakota. In January of 2013 the IRS determined that the CHDO was a 504(c)(4) organization. A CHDO is able to apply for HOME funds provided by HUD to particular entities with the purpose to develop affordable housing and assist low-to moderate-income individuals in obtaining affordable home ownership.
